Dean of Art, Media, and Design
Dr. Carmen Dominguez provides administrative and leadership to the Art, Media and Design Career and Academic departments including Music, Theater & Dance, Art, Media Arts, and English. In addition, she is focused on establishing local community connections for the college’s newly constructed Valley Academic and Cultural Center (VACC), the College motion picture studio, radio station, and Art Gallery.
Dr. Dominguez graduated from San Diego State University with degrees in Music performance and completed her doctorate from the Peabody Conservatory of Music at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore Maryland. Before coming to LAVC, she was the dean of Visual and Performing Arts at College of the Canyons (COC) in neighboring Santa Clarita, where she provided oversight to the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center, College Art Galleries, and the K-12 Arts Education Outreach in partnership with the Kennedy Center. Prior to working at COC she taught for 15 years at Saddleback College in South Orange County as a Music faculty member where she conducted the orchestra and wind ensemble, led the musical theatre program, and served as academic senate president. She has a keen interest in opera and has conducted world premieres on both coasts.
