HOW DO I JOIN THE ASU?

All LAVC students are already members of the ASU. Getting more involved is simple. All you have to do is pay the $10 ASU semester membership (SIS Portal or in the Business Office) and you are ready to get involved. You can enjoy the many student-centered events, activities and programs that the ASU provides throughout the year. You can join a student club or create a new one. And you are able to serve on the ASU Executive Council. (If elected and you are eligible).

$2 Student rep fee:

  • The $2 student representation fee is mandatory. It provides independent support for your student government representatives to express the opinions and viewpoints of community college students regarding education and social issues before city, county and district government offices and agencies at the local, state and federal level.

How much does it cost to join the ASU?

ASU membership costs $10 per semester. The fee can be paid at the LAVC Business Office, and the membership is valid only for the semester in which it’s purchased.

How do I get proof of ASU membership?

Once you pay your $10 ASU membership fee at the Business Office, you’ll receive an ASU member sticker. Attach this sticker to your LAVC student ID card, which serves as proof of membership and allows access to all ASU benefits.

Where do I pick up my ASU member sticker?

You can pick up your ASU member sticker from the LAVC Business Office after paying the $10 ASO fee. Or, you can also pick up your sticker at the Student Life Office (located at the Student Union 2nd floor) after paying your $10 ASO fee. Make sure to attach it to your student ID for access to ASU benefits.

Does my ASO fee transfer from another college in the Los Angeles Community College District?

No, the ASO fee paid at another college in the Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) does not transfer to LAVC. You must pay the $10 ASU membership fee specifically at Valley College for it to be valid here.

How do I get a student ID to access the Game Room and Computer Lab?

To access the Game Room and Computer Lab, you need your physical LAVC student ID. You can obtain this ID from Admissions and Records, but you must be currently enrolled at LAVC. To be able to use the printing services in the Computer Lab and/or access the video games in the Game Room, you must pay your $10 ASO Fee. 

What should I do if I lose my student ID?

If you lose your student ID, you need to pay for a replacement fee of $10 at the Business Office. Once you’ve paid, bring the receipt to Admissions and Records to get a new ID issued.

Do I need a new ASU sticker each semester?

Yes, you need to pay the $10 ASU fee and get a new ASU sticker each semester. This sticker must be attached to your student ID to access ASU benefits for that semester.

Can I access the Computer Lab during summer and winter sessions?

Yes, you can access the Computer Lab during summer and winter sessions, but you must pay a $3 membership fee and be enrolled in those sessions.
